The Grand Connaught Rooms is full of a rich and intriguing history and over the years we have hosted society balls, the world’s leading politicians, royalty, and the world’s famous from all walks of life. We have long been a place to be seen in! Located on Great Queen Street, just minutes from Covent Garden, in the heart of vibrant and buzzing Central London, its history dates back to 1775 when Great Queen Street began being used as the headquarters for the Freemasons and the foundation stone was laid at 61 Great Queen Street for a Masonic Hall or permanent lodge.
Over the years that followed the lodge was extended and rebuilt, both to the east and west and the dining rooms were divided and renamed the Connaught Rooms after the first Duke of Connaught, who was the Grand Master of the Freemasons at that time. The building was then acquired by Principal Hayley Hotels and Conference Venues and underwent a £7 million refurbishment and restoration to relaunch as the Grand Connaught Rooms – a world class venue in Covent Garden. The principal rooms boast ornate high ceilings offset by French polished wood panelling. The most opulent of all is The Grand Hall with elaborate crystal chandeliers and an intricately decorated ceiling.
With Beautiful Crystal chandeliers, 42-foot high ornate ceiling, detailed wood-panelling, the venues’ Grand Hall is the grand dame of wedding suites – outshining the competition with its art-deco opulence and elegant style for up to 750 guests for the ceremony.
Close-by the circular centre-piece bar in the Drawing Bar makes an ideal drinks reception whilst the Edinburgh suite next door, with its 15 chandeliers and detailed wood-panelling is a popular choice with space for 250 guests.
